I’m a business attorney, strategist, and founder of SAGE Business Counsel. But more than that, I’m someone who knows what it means to build while burdened — and still believe in legacy.
I wasn’t born into privilege, power, or pedigree. I’ve been a single mom in law school, showing up to externships under-resourced but prepared — outlining contracts at 2 a.m. while my son slept beside me. I’ve bootstrapped a business with no safety net, made payroll while putting off my own paycheck, and stood at every crossroads without a bailout in sight.
I’ve also navigated life as a stepmom and a mother to a biracial son, raising children in a world that often asks more of them than it gives. Those personal truths don’t just inform my work — they deepen it.I’ve lived in the tension where every decision carries weight, and every result is earned, not assumed. That’s the kind of thinking I bring to my clients — founders who take ownership, lead with purpose, and are building something they want to last.
These experiences didn’t break me.
They shaped my judgment, sharpened my instincts, and gave me a reason to lead.
I earned my degree in Philosophy with a pre-law focus from Georgia State University — not to argue theory, but to understand how people, power, and systems shape outcomes. I wasn’t just studying ideas. I was learning how to make decisions grounded in principle, personal responsibility, and real-world consequence — the foundations of the free market and the rule of law.
Alongside my studies, I worked with liberty-minded organizations advocating for economic freedom and ethical governance. That early policy work sharpened my understanding of how incentives drive behavior, and how unchecked systems can distort both markets and justice.
Before law school, I worked in commercial real estate, representing investor portfolios across the Southeast. I sat across from dealmakers — watching how risk was evaluated, how value was negotiated, and how fortunes were protected (or lost) in the fine print. I didn’t just observe how business moved — I learned how it works.
At Georgia State College of Law, I committed fully: Law Review, judicial externships, Mock Trial, and top honors for pro bono service. I balanced rigorous academics with the responsibilities of single motherhood — learning how to lead under pressure, how to prepare without privilege, and how to show up with excellence even when resources were thin.
That experience didn’t just prepare me to practice law. It taught me how to design legal systems that serve real leaders under real conditions. Today, I bring that mindset to my work with founders — helping them lead with foresight, protect what matters, and build businesses that earn their value, own their outcomes, and stand the test of time.
I started out in a law firm representing secured creditors in bankruptcies and adversarial proceedings. I saw the aftermath of poor decisions, unchecked risk, and legal gaps that cost people everything.
I didn’t want to just respond to chaos. I wanted to help leaders prevent it — ethically, strategically, and sustainably.
That’s why I founded SAGE Business Counsel — a law firm designed to serve legacy-driven founders who take ownership of their decisions and build with purpose — and launched my podcast More Than Legal — to explore the deeper conversations behind power, profit, and purpose, and to help entrepreneurs lead with strategy, ethics, and vision in every chapter of their business journey.
Today, I live in Georgia with my husband — a tech executive and data strategist — and our blended family. I'm building a life rooted in faith, freedom, and fierce love. I’m still asking hard questions, still protecting what matters, and still believing that businesses can be profitable without losing their soul.
I’ve lived the gap between what’s promised and what’s real. That’s why I lead with truth, protect with strategy, and serve with heart.
